What is this effect called (or is it an effect at all)?

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to PS but have been playing with it a lot lately. I came across this image that was used on a label a while ago and have no idea how (if possible) to recreate it in PS. Can someone help me, via actions/effects/etc., take a simple photo and create this look?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Justin

Not sure which one but I'm pretty sure this is a filter. There are a good many presets in PS (try Filter Gallery) and see if anything suits you. Someone else may have a better answer, so stay tuned. Good luck!

It reminds me of threshold filter but the black color has been overlaid with Gray.... not saying it is all threshold but I think it helped

Sounds good guys. Here's another. I used iDad's image, corrected with curves and desaturated it. Then applied the filter>other>custom to it. I just started messing around with that filter recently.

Actually, without the curves layer, you'd probably get more of the overall greyed out look. Just one other PS way to do it. Though I realize looking at your original img again, that there is also that classic currency look given to the hill in the BG.

A spinach field? Popeye would go nuts in that.If I was going to laser engrave this, it would have to be a 1 bit file, dithered. This is with a diffusion dither as an example.spinachField dithered.png

Just the first image I saw that I thought would demonstrate what the threshold filter will do....... awfully close if you ask me.....

he can gladly pay me Tuesday for a remedy today:cheesygrin:....(Damn!What's his name)

Hahaha GMTA (Great minds think alike)
Actually it would require a little more work, but that's the general idea.

Larry, you're the engraver. How do you weigh in on this?

All I can say is wow! All of those look really good. I appreciate everyone's help and feedback on this. Not only has it been informative, you guys are hilarious as well. I especially like the Wimpy reference.

I'll play around with the pictures I have and see if I can re-create your magic. I'll post my results.

Thanks again everyone!
