What is the best way to colorize a HQ draw?

After watching a video from Steve Firchow on youtube I see that he is not using layers to paint a draw made by David Finch...

What is the best way to put color in photoshop on a draw? Using layers or not?

But, to answer your question.....I would highly recommend using layers!

There are no good or bad ways. I use them both. Its really depends on the picture, that you need to colorize, and how the result would come out by using them.
