Hey! Im new to photoshop all together! Never had a class just some family pics made and love what photoshop has to offer - not looking to take over my photographers job - just would like a good photoshop to work with at home for my own pics... Also looking for a good program to be able to make videos with pictures and music! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Bunches!

Well depends on your budget if money is not a problem then adobe creative suite you get audio editing video editing and photoshop plus many more applications cs5 is the best way to go. Photoshop is the best for creative design photo enhancement and retouching but if you are on a budget then I would start of with adobe photo elements will do all the stuff you will need for photo touchup and filters etc. but I would look into some video editing software either premier or sony vegas. as to audio depends what you are looking to do adobe audition c5 is good for mixing channels enhancing music and vocal effects but there are plenty of other software for making music you will need something like ableton live, Kore or Acid maybe even fruitloops. If you are looking at DJ software magix mixmeister studio, Zulu, Traktor, PC DJ or more basic virtual DJ.
If you want special effects for video then I would have to say Adobe After effects or if you just want to make dvds etc with chapters and dvd compilation Adobe encore. a lot of info but you really need to sit down and make a list of what you want to do and then get the software to suit your needs. So many people have the idea they want 1 program that is easy to use that will do everything well I am afraid to say none of them are easy to use some take many years to even be at a confident level and if you want to go down the professional route then professional software is very expensive and need top of the range computers to operate them smoothly. research some of the programs and narrow it down then maybe look on youtube for other peoples projects and see if that is what you want to do look at tutorials and see if you could follow along easily enough etc........
Hope this helps

Like Hoogleman said, it depends on your budget, the extent you'll be using it, and how much you'll be using it.

The creative suite is the best as it comes with a program for everything. But it's really expensive.

I think that if you are totally new to photoshop and just want it for fixing your home pictures and movies, I would choose Element 9/ premiere elements 9 bundle.

I started learning the basics of photoshop with elements 8, and I was surprised how huge that program actually is, not in comparison to the real big photoshop, but enough to confuse the h*** out of me lol, but it really does have a lot more functions and things than you would imagine, and it even has some of the features in Lightroom as well.

I think that for home use, for photos and videos and things, that would be more than enough to start with, and will go a long way. :)

The most complete bundle is the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection but beware before buying the latest v.5, you´ll need a 64bit system for using the video and sound features in that one. However, In the previous version "CS4 master" all features work with the "normal" 32bit. And you could probably find this bundle at a more appealing price as well.

WOW! This is great info! However, I just want to be able to fix pictures I take, and give them different effects and then make videos with pictures and add music to the video. Nothing big. Ive heard photoshop is very hard to use without a class....Is this true?

Whats the best way and easiest way to learn how to use it without a class?

Thanks for all your help!

As far as my budget - Im looking for something good - if it was unfer $200 its ok but Im not looking to spend $200+ on a photoshop program. But Im really not sure what they even cost! Or the best place to buy one!

I would think that Elements is the thing for you then.:) Here are some tutorial links, there are ways to learn all over the internet.. Learn Photoshop Elements 9: Getting Started and tutorials

I think Elements 9 costs about 100 dollars, and premiere elements ( for videos) about the same, but they usually have bundle packs with both for about 140 dollars I think.

There are also free photo editing software programs you can download, but they won´t be as good as Photoshop. :)

so really you want a slideshow maker well photoshop elements will be good enough for the picture editing side and then something like windows video maker should do the rest

Could you go down the student discount route maybe? I will be saving a bundle when i order mine later in the year.
