What is the Best method to cut the backgrounds and why ?

Hi Gurus as you all know there's lot of methods to cut the backgrounds from a complicated images for the web purpose and for photo manipulation purpose.In your expert views which one is the best method to use and why you think its the best ? As you know there's pen tool,quick mask , Background eraser tools, Marquee tools, channels etc.. for this purpose.Your expert views and inputs are really helpful to all of us to learn some new things.

Mostly the pen tool, but usually a combination of a few methods, as every image is different. Each method has it's advantages and disadvantages, it's up to you when you look at an image, to make a judgement call on which will be best.
 
For all your complex images... Pen tool is your best bet...

For other images you can use Magic wand tool and make selections. Increase/decrease the tolerance to make accurate selections..

But as spruce said above... every method has its advantages and disadvantages... you make your call when you look at an image
 
I second what Spruce wrote.

The only thing I will add is that whatever removal or isolation technique I employ, it will always result in a mask. I never work destructively. So I try not to use any technique that might require the erasing of information.
 
Like the others said - there's many ways to do it depending on the image.

Here's another ...

Create your selection in QUICK MASK MODE using the brush tool in various sizes. When done, exit the mode and INVERSE the selection.
 
Mask it....MANY different ways as shown above to get your mask...non destructive is the advantage
