What Is A Good Laptop For Graphic Design?

I am in the market for a new laptop and want something fast and good for graphic design. I am looking at the Dell Alienware M17X but I am not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
i have the macbook pro 15in with the anti glare screen and its amazing. i wouldnt get the ailenware because its a dell product and dell computers tend to have lots of problems.
 
I am also looking at the Sony Vaio F Series, unfortianetly SOny doesn't offer payment plans that I am aware of.
 
Sony may not offer them directly but if you go to best buy or similar (sorry not upto date with computer outlets in USA) they should be able to offer you something.

Both laptops you are looking at are more than capable of running what you want however it may be useful to have an external mouse or graphics tablet.

I would lean towards the Alienware as they are cheaper to upgrade and repair once it gets to the age they are needed.

Sony warranty and repairs even if just ordering parts are very expensive and slow. They also do not replace products like for like In a computer shop where I help out sometimes we have 2 laptops that have been in the shop for over 2 weeks waiting on parts the 1st 1 was a white version and it was decided that it needed to be replaced as a faulty product so when we ordered the exchange they sent a black 1 and refused to change it as the product like for like scheme does not take into consideration the cosmetic look. And they will send out whatever they have more stock off.

However providing everything works perfect the Sony laptops do run quick as they are not pre bundled with what I call the "crap software package" where it is usually crap software that you wil never use and slows your system down (it does come with Mcaffee anti virus trial however this is a lot easier to remove than norton and you can replace it with a decent anti virus like Bullguard)

That said I have not tested a modern Alienware laptop but I will say this they are built and designed for the more powerful application needed users. They are usually well made and are basically the premium Dell Laptops so repairs and parts do come in a lot quicker and cheaper.


If however you have money spare then yes something along the pro macbooks are amazing bits of technology but even worse to get repaired than sony vaios but providing you can afford 1 they will out perform any pc laptop and are less prone to viruses etc.
 
I have never owned an Apple before so I wouldn't know how to use it honestly and I just bought CS5 so I wouldnt want to have to buy it all over again. I currently own a Dell Studio 17 and I have had some problems with it but within a week at the most it has been fixed by a technician who came out to my house to work on it. I am leaning more towards the alienware as I am now used to using a Dell and quite honestly as far as the look goes, its awesome. I know a computer is like a car, just because it looks good does not mean it runs good but I have seen a lot of good things about the Alienware and think it would be a good investment for me.
 
Well since you already have the programs for windows and you like dell products i think you already found your answer. You should just probably get the ailenware. And i agree with you that they do look awesome as i almost got one of them just because of the looks. lol
 
A loud looking designed compter does not neccessarily make you a good designer yourself lol You best start getting better than $5 freelance jobs to start paying that thing off lol
 
And just to add.... Your main work is better done on a desktop.

Laptops are useful for showing demos or presentations to clients in their workplace and to do initial edits in front of them.
 
So let me get this straight, just because I got a good laptop (not for the look mind you) now I am the butt of everyone's jokes? I think it is all personal preferance as to what computer you use. Also, it wasn't as expensive as everyone thinks.
 
Oh dear I guess someone does not realise how cruel we really are here at PSG Just your settled in now so you have to be ready for it just ask lizard or Clare they have been the butt of everyones jokes since xmas lol
 
nah alienware is not as expensive anymore if you go to the right places $600- $800 I would say
