Hey guys,
I'm trying to create a "blue glow/light rays" around an image of the planet Earth and I can't just seem to make it look realistic like this image here: istockphoto_11814587-earth-and-blue-rays.jpg

Does anyone know how to do this technique? You can find a planet earth image by searching for NASA BLUE MARBLE and it's free (sorry I can't post links yet!).

Hopefully someone can give me some advice on how to go about it. Thanks!!

welcome to PSG dosstx

There's many ways to recreate that aural glow around a planet or any object

just extract image in this case the planet it has to be on a transparent background in order to get the glow to work

* See example below

planet_glow_00.png
planet_glow_11.png

- Create a copy ob the planet

- aply "Radial Blurr Filter" Filter>Blur>Radial Blur then use percentage amount slider to get more or less effect, i used 100% amount just to pump up the effect as much as possible.

- Now use the original extracted image and position it on to, change blending mod to overlay whit 30% opacity or just use normal mode.

i've also used a layer mask to get the blurred effect on edges.

* * this is just quick method, but like i said there's a lot more detailed techniques that you can use.

I've found you some tutorials to help you get the effect you want.

Yours was pretty good, but I still can't quite give it that realistic touch that it needs. I'll keep trying, thanks.

Carrie, you gave me some ideas, thanks.
