Hi Everyone,

trying my hardest to try and make some flames (may not be called that) like the ones on the helmet below but really struggling. I am sure you'll tell me it is easy and I will be kicking myself soon

I do that but can only get a smooth S shape then after that it goes a bit funny and then its getting it to remain a consistent width (hope explaining self well)

Use the pen tool to draw paths. By adding and removing anchor points you can get sharp crisp lines, then fill. PS is not the easiest software for drawing vector images though

aah, yes this is tricky

how you can do it to get it smooth:

fill the entire page, cut out the bottom of the flame so you only have the top lining
copy that layer, use ctrl+t to rotate it a tiny bit and move it so it would be suited to use as bottom lining.
now select the top lining layer, and click on the bottom lining layer icon while holding ctrl to select the shape of that layer.
now just press delete to cut it out of the top lining layer, hide the bottom lining layer and done

Illustrator would be better for this, illustrator has the ability to smooth.

If I was doing this with photoshop I'd download the vectors but that's me being lazy.

Although I don't understand chris's reply I'm sure he is 100% correct.

I do see what you mean...But...as PS is a raster based program you want illustrator as said before.

The above link is in AI format.

ofcourse, not all of us can spare the $ for AI,

I suggest you look at that .psd, if that doesnt help ill write something more understandable >_<

Might I suggest you try Inkscape from http://inkscape.org. It's a great FREE vector drawing program.

I threw together a very quick and dirty demo for you to show how easy your flames would be to make with this program.
