Using the 'Move Tool'?

Hello

I have two images open in Photoshop - both alongside one another - and I thought that by using the 'Move Tool' that I would be able to move one photo into the other photo's 'frame', but it does not move over.

I am sure I have done it before.

Why is that, please, and how best to overcome it?

I am trying to move a gif (image on a transparent background) file to a JPEG.

Thanks.

If I understand you . . .

Just make the second image into a new layer. Select it with the marquee tool or whatever works best for you and use ctl/cmd shift + J. This will cut it and move it to its own layer. Now you can drag it to a new document.

Or you can drag the whole layer with both images to new doc, then delet extra img. If this doesn't answer your question, please post an image and try to explain. But the img will rpobably tell what we need to know. Visual artists ya know!

Make sure the gif layer you are trying to transfer to the jpeg image is the active layer.

try dragging from the layer pallet not image to image

Looks like the op got the answer they wanted and ran without even a word of thanks....:bustagut:

The correct answer is duplicate the layer you want to move and in the dialogue box select the image you want to copy it to.

Untitled-3.jpg

Ps it isn't the correct way but just another way :)

My two cents..................

Both images, no matter the format, must be in unlocked layers in order to move or receive.

If the GIF is on a locked layer......
Control/Command + A to select all.
Control/Command + C to copy.
FILE > NEW > OK > Control/Command + V to paste.
Use Move Tool to move to JPEG.

If the JPEG is on a locked layer.....
Control/Command + J to duplicate.

Very many thanks to you all! No, I wouldn't forget to say many thanks! This was the problem as IamSam pointed out: 'must be in unlocked layers in order to move or receive' - I wasn't paying attention to that little padlock. But I am grateful to you all.

It's worked now like a treat.

Much appreciated!

Another "trick" is to unlock the image by dragging the lock down to trash, or changing the backgrounds name by clicking on it, and then enter.
