Using magic wand

I want to remove the black background but I don't want to remove part of the mic. How can I pre-make a border around the parts I don't want to take away when using the magic wand?

I don't recommend using the magic wand here. It will not give you good results. I'd recommend the Quick Selection or Pen tool.
If you must use the magic wand, one thing you can do is simply duplicate the layer and mask out the microphone, then do the magic wand selection on the other layer. You can also make a selection of the microphone, invert it, and change the mode to Intersect instead of New in the options bar before making your magic wand selection.
Lastly, if you really want to do it all in one go, add a Curves adjustment layer. Drag the white handle to the left until the microphone is bright. Then drag the black handle to the right until the background is very dark again. Then, when you make your selection, be sure that "all layers" is selected in the drop-down menu for layer sampling. By default I think it's set to "current layer only". After the selection is made, you can delete the adjustment layer.
Please note that I don't have access to Photoshop. I use a different editor. I'm going from memory based on YouTube tutorials I've seen. I might be off on some of the names of things.

You can use the Magic Wand Tool to mask out the majority of the subject and create a layer mask. Then use the Pen Tool for the mic.

Or you could use a channel masking technique. For me this is much more accurate way of making the selection. It's not necessarily better.

Just use the Pen Tool to create a path.....

Convert path to selection....

Then continue fill with white per normal channel masking procedure...
