using image for banner

Say if I had an image i wanted to use for the background of my banner, how would I go about making it my bg?

I have a banner i wnat to make and want to use an image to make it but dont know how.

If you have an image that is the correct size and everything, it's as easy as can be.
1. Open the image in Photoshop.
2. Save it with a new name (just to have the original intact)
3. Add layers with all the fancy stuff you want to have.
4. Press ctrl+alt+shift+s to save the image for the web.
