Using an image as a brush? (Not sure if the correct wording)

So I'm trying to convert an image that I have into a sort of brush/pattern, but with color. I don't know if that's the correct wording for what I'm trying to do, but here's a picture of my desired effect.

So I'm trying to get that repeated effect thing. Any thoughts?

Make the head your selection, then make that into a brush. hen after making it into a brush, play with all the options, you should be able to do what you posted with ease.

I may be wrong been a while since i played with custom brushes but I believe brushes are only 1 colour however you can apply hue/saturation dither etc to the brush but photorealism is not what you will be getting from a brush unless of course you do it black and white and then manually colour the image afterwards

You have a Couple Options Here.

Create a Solid Brush the Shape of the Face or an Average Face Shape for general use. Then you will need to choose that Brush with using the Pattern Stamp or the Smudge Tool set to 100%.

Hope that Helps.

I just did a quick google search and it appears it may well be possible. I am providing a link to the 1st hit in my search results. I did not check out the details but from a quick perusal of the thread linked to it does sound like it can be done (sorry its getting late and I do not have time to explore this in detail, I hope the link helps). http://www.redbubble.com/groups/pho...s/91736-how-do-make-a-ps-brush-multi-coloured

Here is the link to the google search results. Perhaps it will help http://www.google.ca/search?num=100...338,d.b2I&fp=4ce67adabfe0db71&biw=975&bih=589

This is not a brush.

This is an old extrusion process. Create a selection of the face. Command +J to duplicate the face selection on it's own layer. On the face layer, select the move tool, hold down OPTION + COMMAND and then hit the directional arrow keys in the direction you want the extrusion to go. (this moves and copies the layer) When you have the extrusion where you want it, select all the extrusion layers and merge. Use the smudge tool to clean up the extrusion.

EDIT: As Hawkeye suggested, you can use warp or liquify to alter the extrusion.

Good luck!

You don't need a brush. Select the face and copy to a new layer. Ctrl click the layer to select the face now hold ctrl+alt and hit T. You'll get a transform box around the selection. Move it just slightly (I suggest using the x-y coordinates) and hit enter. With the selection active, hit ctrl+alt+T+shift repeatedly to get as many copies as you want. When you're done use warp and or liquify to get the effect you're after.

Ah, I love it, interesting technique. Another one for the "I hope I get an opportunity to use this one day" process box. Its too cool not to use. Thanks both for the question and the solutions.
