I have heard there are specific increments or procedures for upsampling digital files for printing LARGE prints i.e. 16x20", 20x30". I have a need to print out large copies from 2832x2128 @ 72dpi digicam images.....

Thanks......

Hi Jeff, Resampling is generally not a good idea.

The original file sizes you quoted will give:

15 x 20 @ 141 dpi with no resampling.

30 x 22,5 @ 94 dpi with no resampling.

The first should be just about printable on a desktop printer as it is.

The second will give poor quality.

You could try resampling, then blur and sharpen, but it is a case of trash in trash out. Photoshop cannot recreate the missing detail.

There is a new scaling plug-in from Extensis, but I have not tried it personally.

Yeah, Rantin Al has summed it up well, BigRed450! ;) Upsampling results in inferior print output because Photoshop has to "guess" and fill in missing pixels based on surrounding areas!

[stuned] Gee, Golly, Gosh... I'd love to own a printer that could handle a 16"x20" file! :\ And so I dream....
