Uneditable Text

I have Photoshop Elements 6 - have had it for over a year - not sure why, but over the past week, I've had numerous problems with my Text layers. I will create a type layer, won't merge or flatten it, and for some reason, some text layers will "lock" somehow and not allow me to edit, everytime I try to edit, photoshop creates a new layer. Why is photoshop doing this? I'm not rasterizing text.

Before you click to edit, make certain that you are at the correct point with the cursor on the existing text. You should see the cursor change, the little dotted square will disappear, then click and edit. Otherwise you'll just be starting a new text layer.

Thanks, Hawkeye, I've checked the cursor a few times, and it still goes automatically to a new layer. I also noticed that in the Layers section to the right, my text layer no longer has a T icon, but has become an image of the text itself. I might be hitting something uncorrectly, but am not sure what....

Then apparently the text has been rasterized and therefore is no longer editable as a text layer. You may not have rasterized it on purpose, there are some filters that require it to be rasterized. There is usually a pop-up warning, but I think it can be deactivated (I don't use Elements).

I bet you that's it! I was playing with filters on some text, and the text probably got rasterized that way - I'll be more careful with that - THANKS!!
