I am new to photoshop and I'm trying to understand jpg file compression and how Photoshop deals with it. Let's say I have two jpg files of the same subject - one was compressed to 4.4 MB and the other was compressed to 1.2 MB. I was told by a friend that once they are opened in Photoshop, that it did not matter how much compression was previously done since opening them in Photoshop will uncompress them back to their original uncompressed 20+ MB file size and that you will not lose any image quality. So that a higher level of original compression will not degrade the photo quality since Photoshop brings back (uncompresses) the file back to the original size when the picture was taken. Is this true?
