I took a photo of a dancer and I'm trying to crop out all the other people to make it look like she is alone on stage.

The tricky bit for me is getting rid of the guy right behind her.

note this is a way smaller version of the photo I'm working with.
so I'm more interested in the how than seeing it fixed by someone else.

I think you could use the clone tool, it will take awhile but it should help big timeScreenshot2011-06-07at84621PM.png

Or, you could use the clone tool and the pen tool to cut her out. The dancer on the left was easy with the clone tool, but when I the guy on the right, I did a horrible job.

HI Joy

Just like our mates were saying "CLONE STAMP TOOL" is the right tool to use in this job, if you wanna keep the original background of course, but is gonna be a lotta time consuming

Or perhaps, if you want to change the background to something different you can extract the dancer from the background using one of many extraction techniques and just place her in her own customized background

Here's an example using the "clone stamp tool" took me like 15 mins.

Thank You all for your advice

originally i had been trying to do it all on one layer (no way that was going to work for me):banghead:

So separating her out helped allot though it took tons of copy & past I think it came out well

I think i had over 50 layers before i was done

but her she is

IF YOU USE THRESHOLD filter on that you may be able get a nice shape for brushes (person Silhouette)

I have graphics at the highest settings and it runs smoothly. I'm not guru with this but what can I do to reduce the unsharp edges? Especially when things are not very close to me I can always see unsharp and unclear edges. It's kind of annoying.

you do now ;)
