Good Afternoon people,
I'm extremely new to photoshop, but have managed to get around in the program. I don't want to take up too much of anyone's time, but I have what I hope is considered a "simple" set of questions.

I have images and I want to make it look similar to these.

For picture one (blue):

a. How do I get create that blue bar with the fading colors (light to dark)?
------------------------

For picture two (yellow):

a. How to I create the diagonal bar on the top left?
------------------------

Thanks very much. I truly appreciate any assistance.

The first question:

1. I'd create a new layer and make a selection (where you want the bar at the top) and fill it with your selected colour.
2. Create a new layer on top and clip (hold ALT and click the layer below) it to the layer below (your colour bar)
3. Use the gradient tool and use the white to transparent selection and use the gradient tool left to right across the part you want it a lighter colour.

The second question

1. Use a polygonal selection and just make a selection across where you want
2. Fill in the selection with the colour you want :-)

I've added the .psd file so you see can what I've done for question 1 for help.

Hope this helped

Dom,
Thank you! That worked great. Ok, last question, if you're available.

1. Is there a special way to make fonts look "fat"?

Thanks again.

You're welcome :-)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by fat, you could use a different type of font (search www.dafont.com for fonts) or maybe put a large pixel stroke on top of the font you have.

Is there a font you can show me where I can get an idea of what you mean, I could probably tell you in a bit more detail then.

List of some cool "fat" fonts that you might find useful here: http://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=fat
