Good evening from Sweden!!!!!! I have come to the conclusion that hair is complicated! Not just in real life for the ladies but also in Photoshop. I can't say I have a perfect solution for the hair-workflow (in this case beard) though I have come up with some ideas. Feel free to share your hair skills, someone might have some good tools!!

Looks really good. Hair is extremely difficult to work with. As far as hair techniques go, I have link somewhere in on this site to a tutorial for getting rid of fly away hairs. It involved a full opacity, hard round brush, and the clone stamp tool set to darken, which makes it affect only pixels lighter than your chosen sample. which works brilliant for fly hairs, because they are always lighter than the surrounding hair.
