Transparent Background on Text

Version: Photoshop CS on Windows XP Pro

I have searched the web and can't quite find what I am looking for.

I regularly put text logo's on clients sites. Most of the time I need Transparent background set but I can't get this to work in photoshop without getting grainy edges around my text.

I did manage to get it perfect in MS Expression Design but I would rather do it in Photoshop.
I have tried every setting by my image always has the ugly edge around it.

I am trying to put a company name on a gradient background that changes based on the template they choose.

At this point this is getting so frustrating for me. I have tried setting the transparency colours and everything but still no luck.

Can someone give me a step by step guide to getting this working. I know its supposed to be a simple thing but I just can't find the answer in Photoshop.

judging my the lack of response I'm assuming photoshop can't do what I am asking!!

Its a real shame. I prefer photoshop over MS Expression Design but ED seems to get it right every time where as I'm now tired trying to get it to work in photoshop.

Just found the best way to do it.

For others out there trying to do the same this is how I did it.

Create your image as you normally would making sure not to put anything on the background.
Save the image as a .psd image (this would be your master)
Close the image and open it in GIMP (Its free) now save as png or gif.

I get the most amazing results when I do this. Even very skinny lines are put out very very well using GIMP

And it takes very little effort to save the file you want.
