Transparency

I am realtively new to PhotoShop. Using 7.0 on Windows XP

I have a image, white background with an outlined letter C. I want to make the outside white transparent, but the inside of the letter C to remain white. Is this easy? I created a new image with a transparent background, which doesn't seem to be working.

Are you saving as .jpg? You will lose transparency if you do. Save as .gif. If you're having trouble getting the backgroudn transparent to start with, you may be able to use the magic wand on the white area (if your shape is very clean) and delete the background to transparent that way.

You did create an image, and did you wrote the "C" yourself or it is another file with the C on?
