Transparency problem

Hello gang,

I am a long time photoshop user, but far from a power user. I know just barely enough to get the job done. I work in television and one of my many jobs is doing light duty graphics for broadcast news, promotion, and commercial spots.

I have a seemingly randomly occurring problem with tif files that have transparency, losing their transparency after I edit them and re-save them.

Example. I got a tif file from our weather guy. its a 1280x720 image with a small graphic at the bottom and a mostly transparent background. When I open the file it looks good, and has a transparent background. I made an edit. saved the file still showing me transparency, but now when he opens it on his system, where the transparent background was, is now opaque black.

Obviously something is changing I just can't figure out what. I'm sure you probably need more information from me so please be patient and let me know what I need to provide to you.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks
Stephen

Hey Stephen, this has happened to me before and my problem was a simple fix. I don't know if it will work for your situation.

When you save as a TIFF, on the second SAVE screen, check the box for "Save Transparency," and this solved my problem.

Also, If the file is being used in FCP, change the Alpha setting to straight (or black, I can't remember).
