Translating LEVEL RGB values into a CURVE RGB export

Hi. I am experimenting with a method of calibrating my cameras RGB values off my monitor by showing a white patch and adjusted RGB Levels before they clip. The camera only understands imported Curve data. I have already found the right levels RED 196; GREEN 160; BLUE 147. Now I just need that translated into a Curve.

I created a Curve layer over the Level layer, but I don't think the data is showing in the Curve. Anyone have any suggestions? Just exporting a curve at this step by "Save Curves Preset" does not seem to be doing anything.

Thank you!

Hi A3 - That's an interesting concept. I have a few questions:

1) What camera are you working with?

2) How much do you know about conventional (ie, non-do-it-yourself) color management, profiling, calibration, etc.?

3) Is your monitor hardware calibrated?

4) Why have you decided to look at the data at one of the possible end points of the overall image formation process (ie, at a monitor) instead of numerically, right when it comes out of the camera?

5) What do you use as a light source to (more or less) separately test each of the three channels in the camera?

6) What sort of system do you have in place to measure the response of each channel from fully blown all the way down to say, 7 or 8 stops below that level?

7) Have you compared your results to one of the commercial camera calibration services?

8) How much tweaking does your method suggest (ie, over the straight-out-of-the-box files) or compared to the results of a commercial camera calibration service?

Cheers,

Tom
