Transferring actions to new CS2?

I recently added a larger, second internal hard drive to my desktop, and had to reinstall PS CS2. Everything went fine, but I don't know how to transfer all the batch files I created in CS2 from my old hard drive to the new one. (I've already gone into the Automate subfolder under Plugins, and the batch files aren't there...). I have my old CS2 on an external hard drive, and reinstalled CS2 on my new 250GB internal boot drive.

The Adobe site talks about transfering from CS -- saving an action set ATN file and importing from the new CS2. But what if I can't open the old photoshop since it is resident on an external drive now (I took the internal drive out and put it in a case)? Is there any other way to retrieve the action files? Can I open CS2 on another computer through my hard drive, assuming the ATN files are still sitting somewhere?

Help please! I don't want to have to recreate all my actions again...

To write tutorials I have both CS and CS2 installed on my computer and it never caused any conflicts. So if you can solve the problem by installing CS, then do so, you shouldn't expect any problems.

Gaussian,

thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I already have customized Actions from my original CS2 that was moved to an external drive. I'm trying to retrieve those. Installing another version of PS probably wouldn't conflict, as you say, but how would it allow me to retrieve previous Actions from CS2?

I was just answering your question " But what if I can't open the old photoshop since it is resident on an external drive now", didn't know you couldn't find them. If you didn't save them as an .ATN using the actions menu, then you can find them here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings\Actions Palette.psp

Username = username you use to log in.

I would advice copying the file back to the original CS location, because I can't guarantee it will work when you copy it to the CS2 location:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings\Actions Palette.psp

Gaussian,

THANK YOU -- it worked! Just copied the file from the old CS2 to the new.

Amazing that something like that is not listed in the manual, CS2 help files, Adobe site, Kelby's books, etc. I'm sure it's somewhere, but, thanks again for your help.

Actions Tutorials

Got it--thanks.

Checked them all out. For anyone else interested -- most were art effects, and all were pre-CS2 ( as far as I could tell), but there were some pretty comprehensive action review files. The 84 page MS Word file by Bob McCormick was a GREAT idea -- each page shows examples of a PS art filter -- one page per filter. All using the same base image. Based on PS7 but still applies.

What I had in mind was the 300+ pages tutorial...

Also, pre-CS2 actions also work on CS2...
