so for the past few years ive messed around on photoshop im not the most artistic or creative, but this is something i have been workin on for the past few days and i wasnt sure if yall had any pointers on how to make this look more realistic or better.

pay no mind to 2pixels I think he goes thru life with a stick up his ass.
As far as your picture goes, the first thing I noticed was the windows on building, they are still intact, in the area of explosion or hit.You may want to consider touchup in that area

At least I TAKE the time to comment, unlike you who only comments after a whole week when someone else does and then basically only to attack me...sigh.

I stand by what I said earlier; start all over. It's not meant as an insult, it's meant as a serious advice. To beging with, the imagery is poor, blurry and lots of Jpeg artifacts. The sky is totally not impressive, search Google images for "impressive sky" or "cool sky" and I'm 100% sure that you can come up with something much better. As for the explosion; it looks very flat and unnatural. If you have a piece of rock with such speed hitting a building then you have a major blast with major damage to the structure. The same here, do some research with Google images to look what a real impact looks like, because some blurry orange lines are far away from reality. Here's an example:

Some for those meteors, do some research. Take yours for example, almost all have that black border, but if you would use some common sense you would know that a bright object lightens up the surroundings, it doesn't make it pitch black.

I grabbed some image to show what I mean:

Also make sure that the whole image doesn't become so blurry. Motion blur is fine, but the rest should show a lot more detail.

you say start all over, is not an insult. If it wasn't I apologize for the comment, if it was then your name cover about what it was worth.........Your recent comments come across very cold and not helpful......... for an expect(as you stated somewhere, and if you are, you should know how hard it can be, to catch on to photoshop. Especially if your not artistic or creative as he stated. Chill!

No buddy, YOU need to chill....sigh. Unlike you I'm trying to help people and if that means being direct, so be it, it's the only path to true success. This guy posted 7 days ago and you haven't made any serious attempt to help him. Look at my contribution and then look at yours.

That's funny coming from you who tries to "help" these beginners with totally crypted lazy garbage that even I with years of experience don't understand, here's a quote of some of your so called "help";

You could select the bad areas feature out a bit then drag your mask over a good area> copy, backup 1putting the selection where it started ,then paste....repeat where needed...done. Be sure to feature 5 maybe 8 out though to get the blend in effect

Seriously, what the hell are you saying here??????

Search my posts all you want, you may be confused of a lot more than just that. I never claimed to be an expert, and I'm far from it. The way you come across on here is what this is about,. As far as what you have to say to me, it is worth about as much to me as your screen name, I'm sure I'm not alone on that thought.

You don't need to be an expert to express what's up your mind in just plain English, even if the content is incorrect.

Btw, it's "feather" and not "feature".

2Pixels, I am not here to insult you, but your first reply to the topic creator was very cold even if it was true (which it is). Perhaps you can say what you mean and feel without always sounding cold, crude and insulting? It's not what you say (because you give good, factual advice), but it's how you say it.

Anyway back to the topic. You don't want to work with pixelated, distored images. Use Google Image Search and filter out your results. I like the option of telling Google what size images you would like (Larger Than feature...). Try using an image of or above 2MP (1600x1200). Your image is creative but it doesn't look realistic, and rather like a water-colour painting.

hey thanks for all the help!
yeah sorry 2pixel just my first impression was that you didn't care for my image, but all the help has been great! thanks alot!

a few things i just have a hard time to figure out doing is making the the explosions with the debris look right. if yall had any sites that had some good realistic explosions tutorials that would be much appreciated!! i also sometimes have a hard time finding the right pictures to use. are there any sites besides google that can produce higher quality pictures that could be of more use? or do i just have to be patient with google when searching through the pages?

i do appreciate all the feedback and anything is better even if its just telling me i need to restart!

keep posting if yall do have any more input!
