I have 4GB of RAM system and Im wondering if an extra 4 GB of RAM would speed up my After Effects App? Or would I need to get a graphics card? Or upgrade my processor? Lemme know. Thanks :)

I thought I answered this depending on your version of windows ie 64 bit then yes more ram the better however this is not the only factor multi core cpu of decent spec is also advised I am not talking AMD wouldnt touch that stuff for this area of work not even the 8 core bulldozer range that still gets out performed by the intel quadcores from 5 years ago.

However GL is very big in adobe even more so in cs6 so the better graphics card you have the better performance you will get.

BIt defender or Bull guard are the only anti viruses I would use, Unless someone else can come up with an anti virus that is also number 1 in defence and yet has a gaming mode where your pc can still run at 98% effiency with it running in the background. After effcts cs4 and above will probably struggle on that spec. However I am impressed with CS6 seems to run quicker than cs5.5 more optimised but then more optimised to use graphics cards. Honestly a graphics card should come before ram even if it is just a $100 card you will find independant graphics will make the biggest improvements.

Dalton you can have your thread back lol I have deleted the hijacking elements talking about crap that doesnt really effect your thread lol

aw hoogle thanks:3 haha okay. Ill see if I can get CS3 After Effects from my media teacher at school. I have CS4 right now and when I plug a FLIP clip in it lags... so yeah I'll try that. The only problem with getting a graphics card is getting a bigger power supply to support it. So on my list: Power Supply, Graphics Card, and 4GB of Ram DDR3. Okay. Time to shop.

I honestly would go on CPU upgrade first switch to intel at least then you have a good base to start off with or you could do it your way get ram graphics and then best cpu and main board when you have some cash

I have been to a client these days and he had 16GB of RAM on an ordinary computer. I didn't even know that there can be added so much RAM. I have 4 GB and thought I am cool. But now even I am wondering about adding.

Anyway, it is well known that the swap file will be as big as the RAM, so you will have 8GB of hard disk occupied by the swap file. I advise you to move the swap on another partition.
