Hi, I'm using Photoshop to design a brochure to send to clients. I have layers with all my text, text boxes with borders, images and effects but have decided to change the white page background (I used A4 when I opened the new page up). I have an free square background image/pattern I've downloaded that's designed to be tiled but I cant work out how to repeat it across the layer. I have tried the method of making it a pattern etc in a new document but this saves the image AND the white page behind it as the pattern, and I want to save just the image - which on the A4 page is a small square. What should I do?

Open the image on it's own (without any other layers), Save as pattern. Go back to you work and select background or create a new layer below everything else then fill>pattern>whatever you saved the tile as.

Would help if you posted the image you want to use as a pattern. Is it transparent etc?

That worked perfectly Chris, thank you! I didn't know you could open an image without first opening a new page. So that's helped me on more than one level!
