Thinning a line

I have 2 questions actually....

For the first one, I was wondering if there a way to take a thick (anti-aliased) line, and turn it to a thin (non-anti-aliased line). Basically what I want are lines that are as thin as possible (1 pixel in width if I can do that).

I was also wondering if there is any other method of turning darker lines to black.. besides using threshold. Unfortunately, this option has zero effect on lined images against a transparent background (or at least I can't see a difference), so I've been trying to find another way of doing it. Would any of you guys have any suggestions?

Layer styles will change the color with color overlay of whatever color you want if you're making a line just make your pencil or line tool or brush, one pixel if you already have a line that's too big and you want to keep it you'll need to use your pixel grid and do some fine selecting, delete what you don't want. If it were me I would just erase it and re-draw at one pixel. but if it's not possible the first recommendation should work. Not seeing the problem makes it a guessing game.

Hi,

Are you needing to make the lines thinner in an already existing image, like a line drawing you have imported into Photoshop?

As for the second question, if the lines are on a transparent layer, use a levels adjustment (layer) to darken. You can also use a selection process to select the lines and simply use a black fill.

Please post an example of what your talking about!

If the lines are on a transparent background, the best selection is just to ctl/cmd click on the thumbnail. To narrow them, use select>contract, shift, ctl + I to invert selection and delete outside the marching ants. Then as iDad suggested, make a duplicate layer and set it to multiply or linear burn which should darken the line considerably. Even use an additional layer if needed. You may need to go through the the contract again, but I'm not sure. One pixel may be very jagged.

As also suggested, you could redraw the lines. The best way, IMO, would be to follow the existing line with the pen tool, then stroke it with one pixel.

And as Sam asked, please post images.

Please let us know if we're addressing your need or not.
