Great article about the history of Photoshop, from the very first 0.63 (1988) to version to CS6 (2012). You will see all the icons, about version images, toolbars and user interfaces of our favorite image editing application.

The history of Adobe Photoshop

I think I started using Photoshop with the version 5.5 (2000) how about you?

I started with Photoshop version 1 for Macintosh. Not for design usage but as a novelty. I was with the sales outfit of an advertising company. It was not until 1995 and the great improvements of version 3.0 that I became involved in hands on computer design.

All I can say about version 1 is WOW.... what a primitive GUI compared to its present form. But it was such a radical and revolutionary image edit application at the time.

For the past years , I've been searching for an original, perfect condition installer floppy disk of version 1 as well as its BETA versions for collection purposes..... sigh.....

Oh man, that's awesome you were part of the history in the making. The UI sure was primitive looking comparing to the modern version, but what I find amazing is, that the basic concept stayed pretty much the same until this day.

Good luck with your floppy quest!

I came in on 5.5 also. I am happy that Adobe has left the basics from that version and built innovations on top of it. Good luck with your floppies dv8! They're a problem for most of us ancients, it's true.

I was checking out pricing for PS 1.0 and back in 1990 when it was released, it was $895.00 Cheaper now than it was back in the day.

And I also found out you can download the 1.0 source code here at the computer history museum.
