I want to show you some of the beauty of blending modes.
I made a copy of the original layer, added gaussian blur (value 8) and changed the blending modes. Especially the blend mode darken in combination with Gaussian blur creates a very interesting effect.

Gaussian blur 8 - Blending mode darken
This effect can only be achieved using gaussian blur!

Or combine different blending modes, in this case I replaced the eyes from a darken layer with the eyes from a color dodge layer using 55% opacity. (both layers have gaussian blur 8 applied)

G-man

Good tips , nice examples. This is the kind of demo's I need. Say and show. Otherwise I get a little lost in the technique.

And- I very often forget about blending modes. Good reminder to think possibilities using them.
Good work
X'ks

Something for the girls

Hey no fair! I tried this and I still don't look anything like Halle. Oh well. At least it cleared up my skin & gave me fewer wrinkles ;)

I've always hated this picture. No sleep the night before & 10lbs of makeup isn't how I typically look, so I thought I'd have fun with it.

The first is the original scan after a few tweaks (lousy scanner) The second is the one with Gaussian Blur = 8 + Darken. The other 2, I just kept on playing with blend modes, contrast and levels. Some details were lost after I re-sized the pic & .jpg'd it, but anything is better than the original! :D

Wow, beautiful. Halley eat your heart out! I like all the techniques, but the subject is best.

Aww Joy, you're sweet for saying so. Now if only I had Photoshop in my makeup bag, I could edit the wrinkles & stuff for real. I would save thousand$ on future cosmetic surgery! :bustagut:

Good Idea,
we Gals can just wear a computer on our heads, with face visible through the screen. Then turn on PS and blend, blend, blur, blur, think of the possibilities! I have stars in my eyes thinking about that.

Imagine what you could save on hair color & stylists alone! Why, you could be a short haired blonde one day and a long haired brunette the next.

And colored contacts? No need for them. Just a hue/sat change & you can have your pick of eye colors!

No more bad hair days, bloodshot eyes, blemishes. Nothing but perfection!

Just make sure to have one of the gurus adjust your monitor settings so you don't end up with whacked out RGB settings or skewed geometry!

Hey Katerpillar

Are you kidding? You are just beautiful and lovely.

I too am a woman - maybe my name confounds sometime - and wish I could Photoshop my own face - permanently!:)

ha ha ha you guys.......... I think the puter would be too heavy to put on my shoulders so I will stick to my paper bag ha ha ha (glad I can touch type he he he)

Hey ugly one, got a new name for ya: KaterpillarBeauty :bustagut:
No, serious, you shouldn't complain ;)
By the way, you did a nice job on those shots. Don't you like these cool effects and how they have an impact on the final output, I know I do.
Well done :righton:

I love playing around in Photoshop and seeing what the final result is. I wish I had more time to sit around and experiment with things. There is so much about the program that I either don't know about or don't understand. I have the most fun with Photoshop when I can just sit down and play around and see what I end up with.

UC

OK
I took pic with webcam this morning. Put computer on head, blended, blurrrrrrrred, blurrrrrred, color dodge and this is it, well maybe a little more blurr would help. Now I see why Halley makes the big bucks. he ha ha .... Wow you have to be brave to post your pic here. I'm regreting it already.
