Hey all,
Been a Photoshop user since version 5 - currently use both Photoshop 7 and CS3, both installed on a dual-core PC with Windows Vista operating system. The programs both worked side-by-side in the same operating system without any noticeable problems for over a year.
I have recently come up with a problem that baffles me. It began with Photoshop 7 (my default picture editor) and to get around it I would use CS3 for about a month when I needed text, but then CS3 began having the same problem several weeks later. I also use CS3 InDesign and Acrobat Professional for inserting Photoshop images in large text documents at least once a week.
The problem: When I open the text tool to try and type any font of any scale I get only a very tall blinking vertical cursor instead of the normal one appropriate for the scale of the specific font. The cursor stretches from the text insertion point to the below the bottom of the document window. The cursor size changes only a small fraction of its length when I enlarge the font size from 6 point to 72 point. When I try to type the cursor will advance like it is typing something, but no text is visible. I can move the cursor around the document, but cannot select the text to change font, color, or any other attibutes. The automatic layer title reflects what I have typed, but in no view do I see any visible text on-screen. Saving the document and reopening does not help.
The problem has been a constant since the first time it happened and removing both Photoshop 7 and CS3 from the hard-drive and re-installing from the original CDs has not fixed the bug.
Anybody have any ideas less drastic than simply reformatting my whole hard-drive and re-installing the operating system and Photoshop programs -- because that is about where I am headed if I don't take a sledgehammer to it first.
Thanks,
Don
