Text tool problem

One of the strangest problems I've had. My text tool is set to a reasonable size yet when I try to type the blinking cursor is nowhere to be seen. I can kind of see a part of it blinking it the top corner, but in character styles everything is set to normal. The text shows up as this odd pixelated strand (see pictures) This happens in whatever font I use and whatever size i use. I reset character style/paragraph styles. I restarted the computer and, I repaired disk permissions. No luck. Anybody experiencing this?

zoomed in way too far to see your typing cursor at that size font

does zooming out and decreasing font size work?

If you see that tiny white dot in the corner of my text selection, that is my cursor and it is blinking. there is a zoomed in version and a zoomed out version.
 
ok so you have a verry odd font, does this also happen with a normal standard font like times new roman or ariel?
 
THE only way I was able to duplicate that was as I said, did you try my suggestion?
 
Okay now, it is doing it again. And my document is a normal 8.5 by 11 size. Any other suggestions. It was doing this on my friends computer when trying a different size document worked. Now it is acting up again.
