Text image printing with a light grey background instead of white

I have created a text image in photoshop that has a white background with coloured words on it. I have saved the image as a jpeg. When I print it out at our Kodak kiosk or other photo print places the background prints as a light grey instead of white. I don't know what is causing this and want to know how I can fix it. Please help, I need the background to be white!
I have spent the entire morning so far googling this problem but haven't come up with a solution :(
Any help or suggestions will be very gratefully received

Post the image or a section so we can see color of the white?

My first guess is that you have your camera set on autoexposure and it's trying it's hardest to render the brightness of the scene as a nice middle gray. This effect is incredibly common in pix taken in snow and at the beach. In your case, you have a big, highly reflective object (the paper) in the middle of your frame which can have the same effect as snow or sand.

If you set your camera to manual and adjusted your camera's exposure and you still get this problem, let us know.

At that point, the next likely cause is that your printer had HIS autoexposure on and it had the same effect as the autoexposure system in your camera.

If your camera was on manual and you specified "NO ADJUSTMENTS" or "NO OPTIMIZATION" when you submitted your print job, you'll undoubtedly be peppered with questions trying to get to the bottom of this. :-)

Cheers,

The image I see is only 72 pixels per inch try making the image at higher, 300 pixels per inch see if that helps(just guessing here, I am no printing machine guru)

Hi I am not using a camera, I want to know how to get the bottom image to print out as a photo without turning the background grey. No camera involved :(

This one was resized to post here, the original is on an A3 canvas in photoshop that is 300 pixels per inch. It still prints out with a grey background :(

OK about no camera. Then just go to my statement:

"...At that point, the next likely cause is that your printer had HIS autoexposure on and it had the same effect as the autoexposure system in your camera...."

BTW, all of the Kodak kiosks that I have ever used ALWAYS have autoexposure on by default. As I recall, there is a way to turn it off, but it is buried in their menu system.

Tom

PS - @iDad: Sorry, no way it's related to ppi.

Thank you so much Tom, that makes much more sense, my husband is the manager for our local Kodak store so I am going to pass this information on to him and see if he can find those settings. I truly appreciate your taking the time to help me

Glad to be of help. If it turns out the effect from the autoexposure on the printer being on is not large enough, come back and let us know.

Cheers,

Tom M
