hey

I'm kind of new to photoshop. I started a little while back. As you can see below I have try to make a picture of the sun. It doesnt look that great but the thing that's really annoying me is if you look in the bottom left hand corner of the sun you'll notice that the orangish colour runs. It's really bugging me. Anyone have any suggestions on how i could fix it????

One way might be to use the Smudge Tool (hidden under the Blur tool in the Toolbox) set to Darken and maybe 30%. I constrained the effect of the Smudge tool by using an oval selection slightly larger than the disk of the sun, feathering it by 10 pixels to make sure of a soft edge and then Select > Inverse so the disk of the sun wouldn't be affected by the Smudge tool.

Here are the results of the quick effort. Is that sort of what you are after?
 
I think you're making it harder than it needs to be, Welles.

A faster, simpler solution is to make a circular selection, invert it, and then just use the airbrush at a lowered opacity and the Eyedropper tool to paint over the smudge, and that horrid lens flare in the lower center. Use the blur tool set to about 85% to smooth the edges back into the sun itself.

This was done in about a minute, just to show the effect. Adjust to your own tastes:

Huh? Howso? The only real difference in effort is that I feathered the selection. Didn't use the Eyedropper either. One tool less there but one step more in the selection. We each used the same number of steps.

I thought the lens flare was on purpose and didn't touch it.

Seems to me we both took the same amount of effort (very little) and came up with a perfect example of how there are a zillion ways to achieve a given end in Photoshop. Your results look just fine to me!
 
Thanks for the suggestions. I used a bit of both of your suggested techniques and thats what i came up with below. The lense flare was a bit of an accident, didnt notice it because of the running color in the other corner. Here are two i came up with. I think ones darker than the other but im tired so i may be seeing things :\ . Tell me which one you think is better (if there is a differnce) and any other constructive criticism is welcome.

Looks like you got a couple of good results there! The top one is slightly darker but which one is better depends on your response. Whichever you prefer is better and that depends on the context of the use of the image and many subjective intangibles.
