Had an idea to manipulate a pic of someone looking out an ordinary window into a fantastic view of space. Created the space scene from scratch and put the two images together and played w/ lighting effects. The end result is...underwhelming. Any suggestions on how to improve this concept for the next time

Hey ddl.

The blue is overwhelming!

The space scene is faint, dark, and uniform. Most star fields contain faint and bright stars formed in clusters or bands with bright and often colorful glows.

The window pane selections need some work. How did you make the selections?

Thanks for the feedback. I need more practice on making star fields. I used the pen tool to cut out the window panes.

Did you use a tutorial for making the starfield?

Used a pretty basic one on Youtube (noise/levels/gassian blur)

The moon was from a brush
The nebula was accident from messing around with lense flares and blend modes :)

I agree with Sam. Changing the kind of blue applied to just the woman for instance would improve the scene. I would suggest a severe crop as well.

Here's my idea for you, not including as Sam says, a more realistic star field. And maybe make the planet and galaxy bigger. Even add another planet or moon as three is a balanced number in a display.

Thanks for the feedback. Played around a bit and came up with this :

A straight crop of window looked bad so I made edge blurry and wavy.

The star field is certainly more interesting. Could maybe use a few vapor clouds here and there. I'd like to see you put your original solar system items back in and spice up the sky with them. I also think the bottom should be cropped some, closer to the window. The bottom of the woman and the rest of the wall is extraneous and draws from the picture, IMO. You might also consider warping the right hand side of the window so that it is straight. Coming along nicely!

I like your first image a lot. It has a special "aura". I would just try to improve the "space view".
My first impression on the second image is: a black curtain. But maybe this is just me?

On the second image, I agree with Auntie Clare in that the starfield is much more interesting than the first. It's getting better! It's still a bit blurry to me and lacking depth and color. Did you try to make a red planet in the upper right hand corner?

For me, the major distraction is the selection of the door and the wavy treatment you've given it. As Clare pointed out, the right side needs to be straightened.

The window was a much better idea.
