stuck in a tutorial

Please don't tell me I'm the only one!
Every now and then I find myself stuck in a tutorial, because a step is not working or I don't understand what they mean.
The very worst thing that ever happened was a tutorial in a magazine where I just could not find the initial image that was needed to start! It was not on the CD that came with the magazine, nor could I find it online.

But most of the time, something is just not working

It could one of 2 things... Either there's something wrong with the tutorial OR the terminology used by the tute creator is just too deep.

As for the image, look for something that closely resembles it if possible.

You're not alone.... it's a matter of finding a workaround ....

Post what difficulty you're having with the tute. Maybe we can figure out the snag....

I have found to Listen well, screen copy when paused ; most of them you will see what you missed, sometimes you miss a command on the voice over.

I find that like dv8 is said, a step is missed or explained in some other language, lol. I have to finger out what the heck happened. Sometimes just looking at the results of the step give a clue. I've found some that totally miss a step or express it, like dv8 said, in a technical term I don't know or is different from what I use. So, good luck with that, and if you ever get stuck, post the tut link and let us know where you get jammed up.

I agree with the mob.

I usually find more mistakes in written tutorials. When my result is far from the tut's result, I begin a closer examination where I sometimes discover missing steps by inspecting the images provided for the tut. Look closely at the layers panel and toolbar settings.
When you hit a wall in a tut, be sure and closely examine the images. However, I must admit that it's usually something I missed and not the fault of the tutorial. I've also found that my own familiarity with certain procedures and steps in a tutorial causes me to skip over information that was pertinent to the outcome.

As you (fotograffiti) pointed out, it's often that I just don't understand. When this happens, I fire up Google and can usually find the answer. But my best resource is often here at PSG.

Mistakes happen but are far less common in video tutorials. They're usually discovered by the presenter either at the time they are made or during editing. Again, rewind, pause, and inspect. And like Mike stated, listen carefully.

Good luck and definitely ask if your having issues!
