Hello, I'm trying to find a simple way to make a border around an image, but with square corners. Stroke does what I want it to, but I want the border on the outside and the corners square, not round- which is what I get when I use stroke on the outside.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you want the borders created by the “Stroke” function to have square corners, set the Stroke (whether you are doing it as a Layer Effect or Edit > Stroke) to “Inside” instead of “Outside”.

Enlarge the canvas of the image equal to the number of pixels of the stroke. Fill it in with a color with the paint bucket. If I want a 60 px stroke around my image I increase the canvas' width by 120 px and the height by 120 px. When I add the 60 px inside stroke it covers up only the new color border that I added to the image. Thus I am able to get the square corners.

If it's a background layer: Set the BG color to what you want to use for the border. Increase the canvas size, set it to relative, enter the size increase you want. It will give you a square border using the background color.

(If you unlocked the BG layer, the canvas border will be transparent, which can then be filled with color)

Did you guys happened to notice how old this post was?

Yes, I did. But this is what showed up in my search for help today. As it didn't help, I just thought about how it could be done, tried it out and then posted my results so that anyone else might benefit from my humble contribution.
