Stretching Maps

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make texture maps of various geological eras to make an animation, but the only source I found for consistent maps of the eras was wikipedia. Unfortunately they weren't texture maps, but proportioned properly so that they bulge at the equator and narrow at the poles, as can be seen at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LateJurassicGlobal.jpg (sorry, I haven't enough posts to post a proper link yet).

I need to stretch it horizontally so the map is a rectangular texture map. Is there an easy way of doing it? I've cropped the black background out of it so its just the map, but I can't find a way of stretching it.

I have photoshop elements 2.0.

Many thanks for your help everyone.
