Strange pressure sensitive brush. What kind of brush is this?

I found a brush in my presets i added a long time ago, but in the group of brushes there was a strange one I've never seen before. instead of showing an image of what the brush print is, it shows an actual brush. when selected it shows a brush hovering over a dotted line, when using a stylus the brush in the little window moves around and above and below the dotted line. I put two small screen shots of them at the bottom. what kind of brush is this? I've never seen one like it before what is it called so i can look for more of them?

Flat, blunt, short, stiff...how its set, look further, tip shape...etc

You will actually find a number of these in PS default brushes. I suggest opening the brush palette and playing around with stippling and stroking and various spacing adjustments, etc.

I think its for tablet users, to see your angle. I never noticed it until I hooked up my Wacom tablet....I love it!

Yep, that's a tablet deal. Don't believe it will happen with a mouse.

Edit -oops I lied. Look down on the bottom of the Shape Dynamics...there is a button there to Toggle the Live Brush preview and I opened it with my touchpad mouse on the laptop, although I have a tablet also

My default PS for that kind of brush displays the popup but it has an X to close it. Never looked for a preference in the palette to keep it from happening. If that's what you're referring to.

Oh, just saw your post ALB. I'll have to look for that next time. I can't imagine why you'd want to see the brush drawing since you can see the brush stroke and adjust it on the canvas.

When the brush dynamics are set, you can see the angle of the brush, the spread etc from the display in the little window. You have to have a brush that works with the dynamics for it to be activated.

Right, I see that. But I can see the brush dynamics on all my brushes on the canvas, so I don't need a popup window to get in my way. But thanks for the arrow, lol.

I was just answering the question. (I think) To tell the truth, I didn't know that switch was there either until the subject was posed.

If it bothers you, it can be turned off. Click the icon in brush palette to toggle on/off.

thanks everyone. my wacom doesn't seem to register tilt or angle but that set still has bristles and i dont have any others that do and i have no clue how to make them or find them

You would have to set what the tilt and angle is in the brush DYNAMICS panel. Click on Shape Dynamics for example. You have one of the brushes selected already, play with the Angle on the little round thing, the size etc. Watch the brush in the window. To find the other brushes that work with this, just start selecting brushes and when you get one that works with that, it will pop up in the window.
I have CS6 by the way. I assume you do too. They may be in other versions like CS5, I was thinking this was new in CS6.
