Strange Photoshop Colours in jpeg - Bright Purple and Grey!

Hi Guys!

well this is my first problem and it's got me bamboozled!

I am running windows xp 32 bit with photoshop 12.1 and have the strangest problem with some images from our supplier's website.

All I am looking to do is resize the photos and use them on our website, however when opening some jpeg images in photoshop they are coming out purple and grey instead of the original colours!

Opening them in paint seems to be no problem.

I have experimented with installing various colour profiles and converting to sRGB but nothing has fixed the issue.....

Please can someone help?

Here is the image normally-:

and here is the photoshop screenshot-:

Thanks for looking :-)

I honestly have no idea what is happening with the photo as it happens to me too. The easiest way around it is to open the picture in something like windows photo viewer at full size where it looks fine. Hit the print screen button, open up a new canvas, then paste it in. I did this and it worked fine.

take it up with your supplier it might be a copyright protection scheme they have in place.

also try to save it as a .png and see if it happens there.

Some kind of security measure was my guess as well. If you save it as a png though it saves the messed up version.

Well, I had resolved this kindof a problem some time ago when the image opened in Black/White while it was colored in reality - the Image mode was set to greyScale - I changed it to RGB and done !!!

But this one seems to be a bit out of the box. If this is some kind of copyright protection for the image to preserve it from being edited - I would like to learn this.

I would really want our Gurus to look into this and see what could be the issue with the image...

Anyone. .?

fair enough then, it must be a random error.

we all know how to get it working anyway, don't we?

OK, I don't have an answer but I found something interesting.

I open everything in ACR before it opens in PS, including JPG's & TiF's.
The image looks fine when I run it through ACR even if I make no adjustments.

If I open directly in PS I get the same distorted image you guys are getting.

Just one thought from reading the thread, I did not try myself yet. I see yellow on one, blue on other, I think one is negative colour of the other. Plus why I see something like selection ( marching ants ) on the second picture ?

Pretty darn weird. I have CS5, same results as Steve. Opened it through Camera Raw and it came out fine. Would its properties tell you anything?

cheked it on ubuntu's properties and it didn't come up with anything perculiar.

Same problem opening it in CS 4 and PS7.... BUT

Open the file in your computers default windows viewer (I use windows Picture and Fax Viewer) , ROTATE THE IMAGE and close/save.

Opens perfectly in PS or CS.

Probably the file must have been corrupted somewhere or improper saving during the save by the supplier.....

Weird tile.jpg

Opened in PS7....
