Started on this around 5 am, still not done. What is something I could do to make this better. I know it could use some help, I'm just at a loss.

Just a suggestion but I was suggest that you work on the perspective of the desert floor

I could try that, but that is the angle the original photo was shot at. I guess I could try to bring it up a little or something.

I changed the perspective of the ground, but even looking at the new and old images side by side I can't tell much difference.

I guess it's all one's subjective perspective

Consider making the cliff/butte more abstract. The sky and the rain (if that's what it is?) have an otherworldly feel and the rock just sits there. Feels very heavy. Maybe a hue/sat adjustment, even some way to make it look slightly more transparent or something. Also the rain over the ground virtually disappears. Maybe an outer glow. And I don't think it has to extend to the foreground. There are often abrupt stops to rainfall, curtains of rain. I've seen it.

To illustrate the direction I'm talking about, here is a slight change. I selected the rock and brightened it with the gamma slider in levels. Then I selected the rock and foreground and made a hue/sat change. If I had the layered psd, I would try making those raindrops stand out more, like I suggested maybe using a glow, inner or outer. (in a random pattern which might not be so easy to do)

OK listened to ya'lls ideas and came up with something slightly different. This one has a different feel to it.

For me Andrew, It always helps to have a story behind an image. Ask your self, why am I looking at a mountain sitting in the middle of a desert in the middle of a rainstorm. Is because there is cool lightning in the background? Is it because maybe there is an interesting animal/animals coming out of hiding to bask in the rain and rehydrate themselves. is it because you or a group are trying to get through the desert to or past the mountain because there is something amazing there.

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. (Cue inspirational music) :bustagut:

Also, when working with landscapes always remember atmospheric perspective. (ask yourself if the mountain would be that crisp in a rainstorm.)

I get what your saying, and totally agree. But sometimes I just get these random ideas from absolutely no where and have to do something with them or else I go crazy. I know that the first image had a few mistakes, but the last one I did was hopefully better. Oh well....forever a newbie lol.

Actually hershy, I wasn't going to say anything, but I think the first image was better. The amount of blur on this last one seems excessive since the cliff is a focal point. I also liked the rain, for what it's worth.
