stereoscopic 3d displacement filter problem

can anyone tell my why the displacement filter is not working correctly as it is displacing the image in figure 1 as so when it should be displacing the image as shown in figure 2.

how can i fix this problem?
 
The Displacement filter in Photoshop isn't a native 3D tool. What is does well is to create a faux bump map, known as displacement map, to use in overlaying images so that they can appear to be displaced properly over the light and dark contours of an image. The lighter parts of the displacement map will distort the overlay up and left while darker parts will distort the overly down and right.

If you are getting the results you want from a standard setting, try adjusting the Horizontal and Vertical scale factors to meet your needs. If you are going for specific portions of you over to act a certain way, you will need to build a custom displacement map to move specific pixels in the desired direction and distance.

I am curious, how did you displace the pixels in image 2?
 
ah i see what i did here now, it was a highly blurred displacement map, so it didn't cause that same effect as in figure 1, it's a shame that there appears to be no filter for effectively creating s3d displacement maps, having to create your own custom displacements could mean duplicating all your layers ect, too much time.

i haven't been able to get enough depth with the photoshop displacement map filter, as the blacks and whites give you enough depth for objects on a table say, or a single object, but not for multiple objects in a room at varying distances or a landscape, ect
 
You can make multiple layers with varying degrees of effect and then mask each one onto the base layer as required to get the effect you desire.
