Hi guys
I am a 35 year old Swede who's photoshop career have been more broken dreams than practice, often with real-life in the way. I was always told I got talent but I always known that talent means nothing without practice.
I did a lot of pencil artwork when I was young but never got enough practice. In my teens during the early 90'ies I started out with Deluxe Paint on an Amiga creating pixelart. I was a major Amiga fan who got stuck with the machine until '98. I played around with Photoshop on the family business Macintosh (version 3.0) but that was it, when I used it I often used it to create pixelart with the pen and that was it. I wanted to go to artschool but mom wanted me to study something real like social sciences instead, which I did and left with rock bottom grades. After working as a computer technician I started my own business to help people with computers so that's when I finally moved onto PC and grabbed myself my first own printer, scanner and a WACOM Intuos2 board. Eventually I found myself in a web-bureau but as a translator/coordinator rather than a designer. Around '02 I took a 1 year break from work and took a course in Digital Publishing and got the chance to learn the software a bit more.
Life hit rock bottom in '04 and I spent 3 years at home rethinking my life. Between '07-12 I have been studying non-stop, first adult highschool where I got top grades in everything. Turns out I was always a quick learner when life isn't in the way. With top grades I could be anything I wanted but I was done with computers, now I got this strong interest in people so at the University I studied the history of ideas, anthropology, sociology and now I approach an academic career in psychology (specific focus on radicalism, fanaticism, extremism, fundamentalism, cultural conflicts etc).
In 2009 I separated and got a lot of free time with myself. I decided to pick up the pencil again. This time I wanted to actually learn what I hadn't learn when I was young. I found my art improved much faster than I expected and thought that perhaps I should try to become an illustrator to get some extra money while studying. Finally I dusted off my old WACOM board and decided to finally learn how to use photoshop properly. In the past weeks I have learned functions that baffles me that I never tried before...
