sports poster Help Please

Hello All... i am looking for a little help.. i am trying to make a sports poster for my kid kinda along the lines of these on this site... http://www.photofile.com/SportsProducts/PhotoProducts/PortraitPluses.html i just tried the link.. looks like you have to go to the poster section after you open this link... SPECIFICALLY the NEW PHOTO COLLECTIONS link on the left column... I got the cutout stuff down... but having trouble trying to replicate the backgrounds stuff going on in these posters... specifically the faded edges and the textures covering the background images... does anyone here know how these are made...ie, how the textures are used and in what order to put the images... any help is appreciated.. thanks...Dave

Ok.. here is what i have done so far... my goal is to work on a better looking background... any help is greatly appreciated...
