HI everybody I am tryin to learn using photoshop.

everthing is a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy.........

There are several ways to do this:

1. Use Photoshop CS (as was mentioned already) because it has text on path functionality.

2. Use Illustrator (because it's had text on path forever) and then paste the results into Photoshop.

3. If you're using PS5.5 or earlier there is a third party plugin by Extensis that does text on path as a filter. It doesn't work in 6+ and I haven't heard of anyone else making one, which is a shame for 6 and 7 users.

4. Place the letters by hand (ugh)

PhotoGraphics 1.0 by Extensis, the vector plugin which allows type on a path among other goodies works right up to PS 7 on a Mac when it is run on OS9.2 or earlier or in the Classic mode of OS X. I don't know about Windows compatibility. I haven't used it in a year or two and so had to check it out just prior to this post. You're right, in saying it was a most useful plugin as were their PhotoTools which have not been upgraded in a long while as well (and probably aren't needed with Styles being incorporated into PS).

I'm starting to think you and I are working on copies of photoshop from alternate universes. ;) heh

I used PhotoGraphics for a while when I was on PS5.x. When I upgraded to 6.0 it stopped working correctly. I went to their web site and there was a compatability release that said in effect "due to changes in the way that photoshop plugins and filters work, this filter is broken. We're not gonna fix it". That was about when I stopped using it. ;) Since I have Illustrator, this isn't too much of an issue.

Aha! You're right! I just rummaged around in an 'ancient' file of old software updaters and found PhotoGraphics 1.0.1 which was the update released after you quit using it. It restored compatibility thru PS 6 & 7 (at least on Mac using OS blah blah blah...)

We're not in alternate universes, I'm just using the Klingon localization. ;)
