Good evening. I'm new here- not sure why I didn't have an account long ago.

I have a question- I'm aware of many sites that offer photos for free personal use and even commercial use however, does anyone know of any sites that have free photos for commercial re-sale permitting that the photo itself has been manipulated to the degree in which it is not longer identifiable as the original image?

I know that this is a stretch- as I understand and respect that no one does anything for fun and sharing however, it's a shot.

Thanks for taking the time to read this over.

If the image is no longer identifiable to original image, providing the metadata is not saved there's no copyright issue involved? In that aspect you can get pictures from anywhere

I know... but there's still copy laws there. According to copyright laws, an image can not be used no matter how altered.

That being said, I agree with you - who in the world would ever recognize a photo that no longer looks like said photo?

Hi there.

It's a good question.

There's a catch in almost all sites that offer free images.... you can only use the downloaded free photos during a specified time period. And your not allowed to stockpile their images for use after the expiry date. You are allowed to manipulate - slice and dice - the photos in any way you wish.

But you are not allowed to sell your image work even if you used the entire image or a part of image in whatever unrecognizable altered state you subjected it to.

Here's an item that says more about the use of downloaded free images....

Before copyright and outright theft began, it used to be widely understood, as Mike said, that you could use any image as long as you manipulated a certain percentage of it to make it your own image. I used to follow that vague guideline.

Today this is not the case.

But as others have said above, there are many sites to get public and free work. One of my favorite sites is deviantarts.com.

Most images are free to use. You just have to read the rules for the particular artist. Most say download and these are usually unrestricted. The thing any artist would like is to be credited on the posting site and the courtesy of commneting on the image page that you have used it here (URL), and don't forget to add a compliment and a thank you, lol.

This is the point in the OP's use of image......

...... does anyone know of any sites that have free photos for commercial re-sale permitting that the photo itself has been manipulated to the degree in which it is not longer identifiable as the original image?

Deviant art contributors allow others to use their stocks as long as credit is mentioned but do they allow using it for commercial purposes? Probably unless you have their written consent?

You are absolutely right. I guess I didn't quite get the re-sale part of the post. But yeah, the rules each artist puts down usually say exactly that, to contact them if commercial use is the intention. I know I'd want a cut, lol.
