Some help with the eclipse tool..

So i'm pretty much trying to delete a circle from text as you see in the example below, I am struggling as i can't seem to delete the text or part of the image under the eclipse tool and it's just leaving an outline of the shape in place...

Make sure you Rasterize the text first. So right click on the text layer then Rasterize it.
 
I would merge the text layer with the layer that contains the filled shape. Then, go to your Paths tab and delete the vector shape. As Inkz says, rasterize the text layer first.
 
I don't think PS has an eclipse tool. Adobe is more into ellipses. OTOH, I understand that the Mayans were really into this sort of thing.[innocent]
