Shattered Effect

I got bored, I made this template for a very simple shattered effect. All you have to do to get your picture in it, is to double click the thumbnail on the layer called 'Edit Me', place your photo there and save. Its not the best in the world, but if you need an image that looks like it has shattered like glass, this might save you some time. Also if you are new to the idea of 'Smart Objects', this might help you understand how they work, and maybe give you some ideas on how you might make images more conveniently using them. Hope you like it.

Do you have a tutorial on this Spruce. I was looking for this type of effect a few weeks ago, but never saw anything like this.

I'm guessing when you create the template, you can make the shatter in the pattern you want it?

This is shattering! Loses a bit in the jpegging of it . . . Did you count the layers? I thought I knew something about smart objects, but this is beyond me. I'll try to analyze it later. Bored huh . . .

Yeah, I forgot to mention, to fit the file on here, I decreased the size a bit. If you change the canvas size to 4x6 and then select folder layer, then resize the glass and background to suite the canvas, there won't be as much loss.

I did this by first creating a rectangle in illustrator and drawing crack lines and dividing it so the glass pieces were separate and could be moved apart. I then moved it into Photoshop, where I separated each piece onto a different layer and moved them apart. I then created a new document which was 4x6, then copied and pasted that into the shattered glass document. I made the newly imported layer into a smart object and copied the smart object to go over each of the pieces. I can't describe any more cos I'm drunk at the minute, but I may make more sense tomorrow.

I didn't do this by following a tut, just was making some templates for facebook banners for companies and musicians and the like, and had this idea.

If I was to look for a tutorial on how to create this type of file (I'm guessing it's the same type of thing Inkz did with the Business Card, please correct me if I'm wrong.) What would I search for?
