I have been working with CS for a few years. I have just got a new computer and this time with an LCD.
How do I get a 50% Grey background when i press F
Also before someone set my PC up but now I am daunted by all the instructions for calibrating and colour profiles etc. Old PC gave perfect results like a car on auto. What is the least I should do. I feel totally out of my depth.\:/ \:/

:)thanks for that it would ahve probably taken me ages to find it and it seems to be written so I can understand. will plough trhrough it in the next 24 hours

at the risk of sounding critical ( not of you ) there isn't an LCD flatscreen monitor made for less than $1,300
and going to about $2,400 [ La Cie ] (These being low end prices) that are good for anything but surfing the net. The EIZO sells for $5,200 and is probably the cream of the crop. Samsung's 22" and 24" Synchmaster at around $500, isn't too bad if you can deal with the 'whiteness' ( if it were any brighter, planets would be revolving around it ). These LCD's that are packaged with new computers really aren't worth the effort to do anything with. Pay attention to photos at the low 1/4 tone to highlight. and at the mid 3/4 tone to shadow. The low end is contrasty and appears blown-out...the high end will loose all relevent detail in the shadows. The technology simply hasn't caught up to CRT yet in the 'affordable models' of LCD's. And the pricier models can't compare to a good $1,000 tube.

Well i got talked into the Samsung and suffering related "snow blindness". thanks anyway...guess i will get used to it and find a setting that suits me.

just another Q...how can i get the desktop background in photoshop to a mid grey. It is too light and blue at the moment

click on the desktop >properties > appearance > advanced > item > application background...then pick a color or choose
'other' and mix one... then click on 'apply'..done deal. then go out and get some Raybans.

no money left over for Raybans!!!!! I cant find how to change the PHOTOSHOP desktop. No "advanced-applications that i can find.
Are you talking in the Control Panel...if not where??? I mean when you key F in Photoshop for a plain grey or black desktop.

place your curser in some empty spot on your desktop...right click select 'properties' or with Vista..'personalize' or go to the control panel and click on 'display'
This is the same simple procedure you'd use to change any and all visual effects, surely you've done that before.. :}

i am talking about the background in the Photoshop window, not the general desk top....Yes I have "done that before" I am only "almost" an idiot and that is why I have to come here and ask Q's of helpful people like you. (P.S got a piggy bank for the Raybans, donations gratefully received) 8} 8}

Dude... this is like pulling teeth...this willchange you PS background color :}

Now let's talk about that Rayban fund..

Ok, just select the color you want in photoshop, then shift+left click with the paint bucket tool. outside the canvas.

picketty, before you start making statements, check and confirm that you have a clue as to what you say ;)
Also, you said that you wanted to change the 'DESKTOP' color...then do what I told you..
If you meant you wanted to change the WINDOW background color, then do what Arkpressen told you :righton:
You would think that someone whose been "working with cs for a few years" would have a handle on the tools \:/

Sorry you're correct after all cs doesn't have a PINT bucket tool ;\ You'll be amazed to discover that if you click on those neat
little arrows in the corners of the tools, even more tools will be at your disposal...

True, but most say these things to make themselves look better. Let's face it; just the fact that someone drives a car for over 25 years doesn't automatically make him a good driver. :D

that' s right dont try and make me look like a fool when I already admitted to being a nerd. I already followed the directions and fixed what I wanted to do thankyou. (Perhaps in my line of work i have never used the bucket tool)
I thought you were there to help and encourage people like me not to behave like bullying schoolteachers. perhaps it gives you a feeling of power and pleasure.
Knowledge puffs up but love builds up" 1 Corinthians 8:1
finally I might add that often people who try and put me down like this and with whom I contend end up becoming very good friends.
Iam sure I will have more questions in the future but if you cant be patient with me please dont bother replying.

Yes Ron matt i only said I had been working on CS for a few years to tell you something not to make me look better. I am a pretty good CS driver where I need to be I waas just having problems with the new monitor and settings.
I dont need to baost to feel good about myself.

well i wasnt amazed to discover anything new about the fly outs on the tools perhaps you were being sarcastic....but....as i said before I hadnt needed the bucket tool. I use other fly outs often....but....just went back to work and no fly outs are happenng at all. Also every time i start i am asked to activate the product. neither of htese problems have happened before.

It sounds like you need to contact Adobe technical support at this point. You're obviously having technical problems with the actual program which is their purview. If the core functions of the app stop working, then all the knowledge of how to use the functioning tools is useless.

i have gone round in circles on the Adobe site and cant find a contact in Australia.
I did uninsatall and reinstall but the problem with fly outs on the tool bar si still there. How can I talk to a REAL person about this [confused]please.
