How do you create a sepia tone photo like the old photos from years and years ago. I have a photo of an ancestor and wanted to recreate it for my book in sepia tone.
Thanks
George

I use different methods, depending on the picture but here is an easy and fast way:

With your image open, click Image>Adjustments>hue/saturation

Then check the Colorize box. Set your Hue to 40 and Saturation to 25.

Hope that helps get you started. :}

I use a different method:
1/ first open your file and use save as so as to save uner a different name and protect your original
2/ switch to LAB mode and copy the lightness channel to another layer. (this channel gives the most exact greyscale info of your file.)
2/Then I delete the background
3/ Switch to Greyscale mode, then to duotone, and choose your colours to get a beautiful sepia. (there are many, many presets)
4/ back to RGB and print.
