Selecting a layer

I'm using a Mac and PS 7, is there an easier way to locate a particular layer on a photograph without going down the list of layers and clicking on the eye icon to see which layer disappears. [confused]

You could adopt the very good habit of naming each layer. (just double click on the name it has, ie layer 346).

If you work with loads of layers, you could also create sets in which you can keep the "chapters" of your work. Just create new layer set, Cmd click to get the properties dialog box, give it a colour and name, and then drop all layers that belong together in a set. 'nother advantage is that you can easily lock a complete set with one click.

This is what I (try to) do, but sometimes I'm a bit lazy, or use the excuse of a creative frenzy/fit not to name the layer when I create it. And then I can go down the list, just like you describe...

Thanks Erik, that works slick wish I'd known about it earlier .
I tried the Command Click but couldn't get the dialog box you mentioned I had to create the New Layer set by selecting it from the drop down menu.
However in the process of trying that I found that if I Command Click when I have the Move tool selected, the layer that the cursor happens to be on at the time will be highlighted in the Layer Box.
great tips thanks again :D

Thanks Mark, the thread was very helpful even stumbled on to another method by chance of locating the layer besides the Command, Control.
I first choose the Move tool and then hold down the Command key. Then while the cursor is over the image I click the mouse and the layer will be highlighted in the Layer Box. Using this method will just show you the top layer whereas using the Command Control method will show a list of layers if there are more than one. :)
