Select and mask hair issue

Hi to all

I want to split the hair from backround to change the backround color. I tried the you tube video's, but stil the hair of my daughter looks light and horrible when I'm finished. (cc2017)

What is happening?

Hi Hans and welcome to PSG

Check out this tutorial from Phlearn, using channels instead of select and mask, select and mask is not the best method for making selections like this and tends to go a bit crazy at times :shocked: never really use it myself for making any kind of selections

tried, but the examples show from the start a good contrast between for- and backround.
it is difficult to make a stronger contrast in my picture without destroying the hair

It is difficult but not impossible. Using almost the same identical techniques as used in the PTC video, I was quickly able to get contrast and a good channel mask that provided great results. It just takes patience.

Just a note.........I did this fairly fast, you need to take your time and do it right.

My problem is I think in the Copied blue channel and selection of the histogram (do you know what numbers you had in that histogram)?
